Supporting education and school safety for children in Kano State, Nigeria

ArticlesAug 18, 2026

Through Dairy Tracks, ofi is supporting school communities in Kano State, Nigeria, with practical resources and awareness sessions that help improve pupils’ learning experience, hygiene awareness, and school safety.

Many nomadic and primary school pupils in Kano State face barriers that can affect their participation in school, including limited access to learning materials, inadequate classroom resources, poor sanitation and low awareness of personal hygiene and common school hazards.

To help address these challenges, ofi’s Nomadic School Children Education Support program was implemented from 9 to 24 May 2026 across 10 primary schools in Kano State. The outreach reached 5,346 pupils with awareness sessions and essential educational materials.

The sessions covered personal hygiene, environmental sanitation, and school safety, helping pupils better understand everyday practices that can reduce preventable illness, injury, and unsafe behaviors.

First aid boxes were also donated to participating schools to support emergency preparedness. Pupils also received school bags, exercise books, and pens to support continued learning. By providing basic materials and targeted awareness, the program helped reduce practical barriers to classroom participation and contributed to a more supportive school environment.
