Green coffee that releases notes of chocolate and tropical fruit is a signature flavor from this island. That’s down to its incredibly fertile soil which infuses beans with crisp citrus acidity and fruit and chocolate notes. Around 30% of the population of Papua New Guinea is involved in coffee, which is mostly grown by smallholders in garden plots alongside bananas, papaya, legumes and other crops. And we love helping them thrive. Sourcing from the Highlands and Morobe, our coffee operations engage smallholder farmers and industry participants through certifications and projects. Why does that matter? These ensure sustainable coffee production, support of farmers, promote environmental stewardship, fair labor and meet consumer demand. Indian coffee combines an incredibly exciting balance of tradition and innovation. All set against a backdrop of fertile soils and tropical climate, which make for very happy arabica and robusta beans. Known for its special shade-grown coffee, cultivated under a two-tier canopy of evergreen trees. The beans are entirely handpicked and completely sundried, often intercropped with spices like cardamom, pepper and vanilla. Do we sound extremely passionate about Indian coffee? We are. We source from 125 certified estates and process beans in the country, across two of our own mills (for added transparency) and one leased mill.

Rich volcanic soils, rolling hills and tropical climate are the perfect place for both robusta and arabica varieties to thrive here. Vietnam is the world’s second largest coffee producer, with robusta as the traditional bean. However, the growth of the Asian specialty coffee industry is sparking change. Farmers are interested in growing higher quality green coffee beans and trying their hands at arabica cultivation. And we’ve been on the ground to see it happen for almost two decades—now with 6,500 employees at our own offices in Vietnam.
