Much of what we rely on every day in our supply chain comes from rural areas, where access to education and healthcare can be limited. Supporting rural communities and promoting rural development means taking a holistic approach—considering the needs of individuals, communities and entire nations—to overcome these challenges.
At ofi, we know that human rights and fostering community resilience require creating the right environment for people to flourish and addressing the barriers that stand in their way.
With our customers and partners, we focus on:
Working together, we’ve pioneered solutions to tackle the multiple drivers of child labor, while our education support efforts reached 34,000 children in 2023. By taking an integrated and collaborative approach, we can make a difference in peoples’ lives. Our efforts include:
Safeguarding workers’ rights: Creating formal labor contracts, training farmers on good labor practices distributing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and improving grievance processes.
Supporting access to education: Helping farmers to obtain birth certificates, providing school materials and improving infrastructure.
Advancing rural nutrition and health: Supporting rural access to healthcare, nutrition, water, sanitation and hygiene, offering screening, supplies and sensitization.
Improving workers’ nutrition: Using the Workforce Nutrition scorecard which contributes to nutrition-focused support at work.

Our sustainable sourcing solution, AtSource allows customers to track significant metrics related to the economic opportunities of specific farmer groups. These metrics can include:
Average yield of a given farmer group
Number of farmers trained in good agricultural practices and the average change in productivity change for farmers who have completed the training
Volumes of seeds, seedlings and fertilizer distributed to farmers
Loans provided to farmers and workers
